PICK A CHALLENGE

As a challenger, your mission is to leverage science and technology to uncover solutions that can augment Home Team capabilities in domains such as enhancing frontline safety, deterring and solving crimes, safeguarding lives and properties.

In this edition of HacX!, your challenge will be to develop solutions to address issues under any of the following domains. Conceptualise, develop, and pitch your solutions to a panel of judges, all in a span of 10 weeks!

Keen to apply your skills and knowledge of science and technology to make an impact on homeland security? Then HacX! Hack for Public Safety is the challenge for you!

Form teams of 3-5 members and register today! HacX! is open to all Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents who are either:

Full-time students enrolled in Junior College, ITE, Polytechnic or University; or

Individuals who have obtained a GCE A-Level certificate, International Baccalaureate diploma, NITEC, Polytechnic diploma, or University Degree / Doctorate within the last two (2) years; or

Full-time National Servicemen (NSF)

Each team member must meet the aforementioned criteria.

FAQ

Interested participants MUST form teams of no less than three (3) members and no more than five (5) members. Members of the team can be from different academic institutions and field of study but must meet the entry criteria.

No, each participant can only be registered with one team throughout the course of the challenge.

Each team may only work on their respective challenge statements within their own group. No external help is permitted unless otherwise approved by the Organisers (e.g. consulting appointed POCs for respective challenge statements).

No, it is not a requirement for participants to have any programming or coding experience to join. Participants of various backgrounds with or without experience are welcome to participate.

No, the problem statements for the teams will only be released at the HacX! Kick-Off event, after which teams can start brainstorming on ideas.

The registration window opens on 8 July 2024 (Monday). It closes on 11 August 2024 (Sunday) at 11:59pm.

The whole team should be physically present for the HacX! kick-off on 24 August 2024, but exceptions may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. At least one team member from the qualified teams must be physically present for the Semi-finals on 15 October 2024 and the Grand Finals on 29 October 2024. Workshops are optional, and registration is required. However, attendance may be tracked as a proxy of the team’s level of participation in the event.

Each team must submit both (i) a video pitch capped at 8 minutes; and (ii) at least a mid-fidelity prototype or mock-up of the proposed solution before the deadline (25th September 2024, 2359). More details can be found in Rules and Regulation.

Submissions to be shortlisted for Semi-Finals will be judged based on the following criteria: Novelty, Demonstrability, Impact, Rigour, Feasibility, Relevance. More details can be found in Rules and Regulation.

A copy of the Terms and Conditions was made available as part of the registration process. By registering and participating in this hackathon, each team had agreed to accept the T&Cs. More details can be found here.
